TheFind is going to Sundance! That's the American independent film festival held in Park City, Utah, in the middle of January every year – and all the action starts on January 17th. Originally started by Robert Redford, the festival features amazing indies – such famed ones as "Sex, Lies and Videotape," and "Little Miss Sunshine" – both which went on to get Oscar nominations.
Not only that, the fest features amazing documentaries – "Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man" debuted here, and this year, music docs/concerts films with U2, Patti Smith and Crosby Stills Nash and Young will all be presented for the first time: and yes, all those music stars will be there.
So will Sarah Jessica Parker (promoting a new film called "Smart People") and Charlize Theron (promoting a film she produced and co-stars in, called "The Sleepwalkers") and dozens of other stars. There are premieres, there are parties, there are dinners (there's even a sub-festival called "Chefdance," featuring famous American chefs cooking for stars), there is skiing (is that Robert Downey Jr. up there on the slopes?) – and there are suites.
Hugo Boss, GenArt, Seven for All Mankind, Coach and tons more fashion and beauty brands use Sundance as an opportunity for branding. They "gift" (don't you love "gift" as a verb?) stars jeans, face creams, etc, and then get to have photos of the stars with their products. It's a huge marketing opportunity for many brands, and the stars love it. Everybody has to get new duffle bags to bring home all their swag.
TheFindGreen is the featured sponsor of the Kevin Mazur Celebrity Portrait Studio on Main Street, presented by Nintendo. All the celebs will be popping by, getting their portraits snapped by the famed Mazur (who has shot Dylan album covers, U2 and Streisand on the road). Guests will also get a sneak peek of the highly anticipated Wii Fit™ at Nintendo's Wii™ Lounge on-site. TheFindGreen will be educating Sundancers about how to shop green on-line and how to incorporate ecology and environmental consciousness into their everyday lives. Sephora will also be on-hand to provide studio make-up.
Meanwhile, the Sundance fashion statement – and there is definitely one – is nothing like any look you've ever seen. It incorporates ski looks (UGGS of all variations), parkas, scarves, thermals, with a bit of grunge – old t-shirts, jeans, faded sweaters. Nothing too new or sprucey looks quite right – it's all about quirk and fun.
So I've decided to give you a little Sundance of your own, by going on TheFind.com and putting together your own version of the look by matching some of each of these items. Match them up with some of the parkas I wrote about on last week's blog, and an old cashmere cardi, UGGS, leg warmers and arm warmers.
